According to Mouser the BMA253 is not recommended for new designs. I wasn't able to find any more information about EOL of this part.

    - Are there  plans to end the production of the part?
    - Is there/will there be a drop-in replacement?

Unfortunately the sales department only mentioned that the part "...will not be going EoL in the next 1-2 years." Our product lifecycle is 5+ years.

    Hello TobiW,

    This is product selector guide.

BMA490L is long product availability. Refer https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/products/motion-sensors/accelerometers/bma490l/

Could we know which application you want to design?

The sensor is used in an industrial application. It is not mandatory for the product. The sensor should be utilized in the future primarily for energy saving (motion detection) and misuse detection. I had a look at the datasheets. The sensor is pin compatible except pin 10 (in I2C mode). Is there a reason why pin 10 is DNC for the BMA253 in the I2C connection or could it be set to VDDIO as well?

The BMA490L is not available yet. Will the picing be in the same ballpark as the BMA253?

    Hello TobiW,

They had same package LGA2*2mm, refer to the data sheet for schematic diagram according which interface(I2C or SPI) you use.

BMA456, BMA422, BMA400 are also your choice for your application.

Thank you for the reply. I had a look at the BMA456 which might be a good fit as well. According to the DS there is also the difference in the I2C connection. Pin 10 should be set to VDDIO instead of leaving it open. Is there a reason why pin 10 should be left floating for the BMA 253? All other pins look are fully compatible. Please let me know if it is possible to connect pin 10 of the BMA253 to VDDIO. This would make the parts interchangeable. The rest is software 😉
