BME680 IAQ and Temperature in an enclosed space

BME680 IAQ and Temperature in an enclosed space

    Hey,

I am working on an application that uses a BME680 in a small enclosed chamber (approx 1 square inch). There is a processor close that is also generating heat.
Using the BME680 in LP mode, I have noticed that the temperature in the chamber increases (As detected by another sensor) compared to the same setup without using a BME680.
Given that the temperature in the chamber is increasing:
    1) Will the IAQ rating be accurate? I believe this rating takes into account the detected temperature and humidity, which will be inaccurate due to the increased temperature in the chamber.
    2) Is there a way to reduce the temperature effect that the BME680 is causing while still periodically sampling temperature, humidity, pressure, IAQ and volatiles?

Using the BSEC library, what specifically causes/changes the amount of heat generated by the BME680?

Is there a proposed solution for taking accurate IAQ readings in a small enclosed space?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello nathan_swidget,

According to the question, the main point is about the external heating source effect to IAQ. Please find the comments here:

Inside BME680 datahsee, the sensor-to-sensor deviation is listed in table3. the testing condition is under 0-40 degC/ 20-80%. If the environmental temperature is beyond this condition, this spec will not be fulfilled.

But for real case, since IAQ is relative value which quantify the quality of the air, the external heating source would have limited effects to single sensor.
Temperature offset setting will not affect IAQ calculation. One recommendation is to set BME sensor away from heating source. If it cannot be placed away from the heating source as description, the heating of 40 degC is acceptable for BME running according to the datasheet.
