I am looking at the Bosch BMI088 6-axis inertial measurement for a robot application, but the PCBA that this sensor will be located on will be within several inches of a permanent magnet. The mounting instructions for Bosch IMUs (document number BST-MIS-HS000-01) states "Avoid mounting (and operation) of the sensor in the vicinity of strong magnetic, strong electric and/or strong infrared radiation fields (IR)." The BMI088 does not have a magnetometer, so does this recommendation still apply? If so, what strength of magnetic field is too strong?
Hi,
Thank you for your inquiry. Please refer to the latest IMU handling soldering and mounting instructions BST-MIS-HS000-03 at https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/media/boschsensortec/downloads/handling_soldering_mounting_instructi.... On page 6 it says"When used together with a magnetometer, avoid mounting (and operation) of the sensor in the vicinity of strong magnetic fields".
BMI088 doesn't have magnetometer inside . The accelerometer and gyroscope inside BMI088 are not sensitive to external permanent magnet. So it is ok to have a magnet nearby BMI088.
Thanks.
