Migrating from accelerometer to Accelerometer+gyro

We are currently using the BMA456 in our application but we need a Gyro function as well. Do you have an IMU or similar that are very close to the Acc BMA456 spec, but easily can add a Gyro function? It needs to be available now.

Hi Sensor_NO_19,

Depending on your application, listed below are the alternatives,

• BMA456 + BMG250. This would be a 2 component IMU solution using our low-power gyroscope.
• BMI088 or BMI085. These devices have an accelerometer that offers the same performance and a closed-loop gyroscope. The difference being that the IMUs have the accelerometer tuned for either AR/VR (lower 16G range) or drone applications (higher 24G range).
• BMI270  or similar devices. This is our latest low-power IMU.

Thanks for your quick replay. Will the BMA456 + BMG250 give any advantage compared with the combo sensors like the BMI088?

Hi,

The BMI088 offers data synchronization features between the accelerometer and gyroscope that you will not be able to get with the BMA456+BMG250 combination, but doesn't provide smart accelerometer features like step counting, wake-up on tilt, etc.. It hence boils down to your target application. High performance where you only need well synced accelerometer and gyroscope data, or you need low power IMU data (not synced) with smart wearable features. If you would like to have both, then the BMI270 is the best option.
