I see 3 potential issues with your code. 1) the gyro power configuration is commented out 2) the gyroscope can take up to 80ms to start, but I do not see any delay in your code before checking the register. 3) Please confirm the accuracy of your delay function, and that the 450us delay in suspend modes between writes is respected. o_o
