BME280 solder flux protection

Your data sheet for the BME280 states "The sensor has to be protected against all kinds of liquids, during processing (e.g. solder flux, cleaning agents)..."

Does the component already have to be masked with a Kapton dot, for example, to protect it from flux vapors during a standard convection soldering process? How high is the probability of a component defect due to flux vapors?

Is it theoretically possible to order the component with a protective cover on tape & reel?

Hi TechnoTom,

If BME280 is produced in standard soldering processes, it will not be affected by flux, cleaning agents, etc., and does not require film or tape protection.
Whether to use film or tape for protection depends on the user's production process. If your production process is not a standard soldering process, you can protect it by opening holes and applying film or tape on BME280.
The BME280 itself does not come with a protective cover.
