Subject: Clarification on Sensor Usage BME680(4 in1) in Fire & Detection System for Railway Coaches
Dear Bosch Team,
We have integrated this sensor into our Fire & Detection System for railway coaches, utilizing it as a dual sensor for temperature and gas detection. Our extensive testing yielded successful results, and the sensors have been operational in train coaches for over nine months, consistently demonstrating reliable performance.
As we move forward with this project, we have noticed a legal disclaimer in the datasheet stating that the sensor is not intended for use in safety-critical systems. However, based on our experience, we have found the sensor to be highly robust and suitable for our application.
Could you advise if there is any official documentation, certification, or approval process that would allow us to address this disclaimer? Additionally, is there any letter or written confirmation that Bosch can provide to support its use in such applications?
Furthermore, if this sensor is not recommended for safety-critical systems, could you suggest any alternative sensor(s) from Bosch that are suitable for such applications?
We appreciate your guidance on this matter.
Thanks
Team SNAS
