IMU Handling - Ultrasonic Cleaning and Welding

Hello,

I have seen other IMUs caution that ultrasonic cleaning of PCBs must not be done because it can damage IMU. I did not see any mention of that in datasheets for BMX160 or BMF055.

Can ultrasonic cleaning damage BMX160 or BMF055?

What about ultrasonic welding? If PCB with IMU is screwed to enclosure and enclosure is sealed with ultrasonic welding, can that damage IMU?

Thanks for your message. Ultrasonic cleaning and welding may damage the MEMS sensors including BMX160 and BMF055. We don't recommend ultrasonic cleaning and welding process for our MEMS sensors. Maybe you could try using 40KHz or above ultrasonic cleaning and welding to see if the MEMS sensors are still working or not. But it is on your own risk.
