I have a board that is designed to run from 3V (2x1.5V AA batteries). During programming the board is however supplied from 5V for a short moment. It seems like this 5V supply for a short while can damage the BME280. It is either that or the BME280 is not soldered correctly.
Can the BME280 withstand 5V for a couple of seconds?
Solved! Go to Solution.
5V is above the absolute maximum ratings specified in BME280's datasheet, therefore you may be damaging the sensor and we cannot guarantee its behavior.
To isolate hardware issues, we would recommend generating some simple test code (e.g. reading and validating the sensor's Chip ID) with a known working sensor/setup.
