Hello,
we are developing a guided parachute recovery system for a university project. Due to the BNO055's integrated 9-DoF sensor fusion, we were targeting this sensor for estimating the RPY angles of both payload and canopy (with sensors in both of course) as well as the relative velocity between the two (GPS is also available).
I was wondering, is the BNO055 suited for this application? The integrated sensor fusion is a big plus for us since it reduces the computational overhead on the other microcontrollers. How reliable is the acceleration measurement though to estimate the relative velocity between two components of the system?
Would you recommend other sensors (preferably with integrated RPY estimation) for this purpose?

Hello lvogel,
BNO055 could output funsion data, included pitch, roll, yaw data for your application.
BNO055 output acceleration value, not speed. You should have extral algorithm to calculate relative velocity.
For your application, it's better to actually test it.
