Best gas detection with bme688

Hello everyone. I'm starting to develop an iot sensor node with BME688. I have 2 questions.
1. In order to achieve the best gas detection with BME688, does it make sense for the hole side of BME688 to face upwards or downwards?

2. So, is it recommended that the hole in the iot node be above, below or on the sides of the node?
