communication with bme688

Sir, I am Using I2C protocol(renesas Rl78 microcontroller) to communicate with Bme688 sensor to read all gas reg values but i am not getting any value from the sensor.

Can we have to write on reg. also to communicate with reg.

right now i am accessing all the register directly but i am getting nothing.
