We are working on a sensor system that has to orientate itself in an underground pipe network. In the current version of the hardware, a BNO055 is used to record the distance travelled in the pipe system (+/- 20%) for later analysis. When reviewing the parts list, we realised that the BNO055 is not recommended for new designs. However, when looking for alternatives, we realised that there is no direct replacement for the 9DOF sensor, only intelligent 6DOF sensor systems to which a magnetometer can be connected. However, it is important for us to use a component that does not require any major adjustments to the current firmware.
