App 3.0 board : Skip Developer Desktop and go straight to COINES?

I'm trying to get started on using the App 3.0 board on a Win 10 PC and have not been able to make DD2 work over USB other than when I boot the device in DFU mode (blue light).  I feels in general like the version I have is not ready for prime time.  COINES on the other hand looks like it is. 

If you load the usb driver in DD2 and look at it in device manager, and do the same for the driver in COINES.. the driver in COINES looks to be a lot newer.

My question is, do most devs just skip DD2 entirely and go straight to COINES?

I got up this morning and installed the latest COINES and this time took a good look at the readme file.  Where it specifically says there are updates in COINES for DD2 firmeware.  So that pretty much answers my question.  In the DD2 UI there is not even a 'check for updates' button, so to me it looks like DD2 does not get anywhere near the support that COINES does?  So moving to COINES and might check back in on DD2 once I have COINES working to App board 3.0

I installed the latest COINES USB driver and DD2 still could not connect.  But the COINES README file mentions a coines_bridge firmware package.  That package supports COM1..n interfaces on Windows rather than straight USB.  I installed the coines_bridge (I think its a beta in COINES 2.7.0).  When I rebooted the board sure enough a new com port got setup and when I ran DD2 it connected! Bad news is this version of DD2 does not support the BMM350, so back to COINES.  So my answer is your probably better off staying with COINES until DD2 ups its game.
