Can the gel sealed pressure sensors (BMP585 or BMP384) go through a standard board wash procedure?
Thank you

Hi jpmorash,
We do not recommend cleaning without protection on the opening, as chemicals can enter the opening and affect the performance of the sensor.

(1) What is the recommended method of covering the opening?
(2) Are the gel sealed sensors MORE resistant? That is, are they more likely to survive board wash (if covered) than the other sensors in the portfolio?

Hi jpmorash,
The part of the board that is not cleaned during the normal SMT process, unless it is prone to PCB contamination during the SMT process.
We recommend maintaining cleanliness during the SMT process. But if it is indeed necessary to clean the PCB, film protection needs to be applied at the sensor opening.

Hello, Glad to find this question. We are a CM building a design for a customer; their assembly must be washed prior to epoxy/potting and we are having much difficulty protecting the BMP384 sensor during the required batch wash cycle. You refer to a film protection. Can you elaborate? We have covered the port with kapton, then used CLF8 waterproof/peelable masking to fully cover the sensor. Despite curing, we still see evidence of sensor damage post wash. We also see damage to the wire bonds which may be a result of contact when trying to remove the masking. I'm attaching images. We must wash the assembly - so anything including material specifications to suggest that protect the sensor during wash are much appreciated.
