Hello all,
I am planning to make my own pcbs with the BME680. I have a small reflow oven (combined infrared / convection). I have already read the soldering instructions and some threads in this forum. Now the question is: Do I have to cover the venting hole of the BME680 in this oven? And if yes, which tape exactly do you recommend? In my eyes the problem is to avoid that the tape and the glue of the tape release any substances into the sensor while at soldering temperature.
Can you give me further information?
Best regards

Hello Elektrix,
Don't need to cover the venting hole of the BME680 in this oven, you only need to refer HSMI document, just follow the normal SMT process.
This is BME HSMI guide: https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/media/boschsensortec/downloads/handling_soldering_mounting_instructi...

Thank you very much for your answer. I already read this document and this is why I am asking. On page 8 it says:
"The vent hole of the sensor shall be covered with a silicone-free protective layer during processing (e.g. cleaning, soldering, board wash etc.) to prevent possible contamination"
Can you clarifiy this point? Is it dependant on which reflow process is used?

Hello ,
Generally we recommend to use a tape during soldering in order to protect from contamination. If factory have qualified their reflow process to be free of contmination and thus did not need the protection.
